It’s hard to believe that we have already finished the second week of term – the days of this week have flown by! With students settled back into school routines and ways of working, we are back to business as usual which is great to see.
A particular highlight of this week was our Year 7 MiSST ceremony, in which each Year 7 student received their musical instrument (a violin, a flute, a trumpet or a clarinet) which they will be taught to play in their weekly music lessons.
During the ceremony, I shared with students and their family members the fact that only 12% of state schools have an orchestra, compared to 85% of private schools. As a school, we are committed to breaking the social barriers which can hold young people back from accessing fantastic opportunities and realising their full potential. We strive to offer our Sydney Russell students the very best opportunities for the academic and personal development, rivalling those offered in private schools, as we firmly believe that a child’s success shouldn’t be determined by how much money their family has or where they were born.
I wish each of our Year 7 students every success and happiness in their musical education – it will be challenging but all we can ever ask is that you try your best.
Have a great weekend.
