Students and staff yesterday baked and sold various delicious, home-baked goods in order to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Sydney Russell School’s five houses, Pegasus, Dragon, Centaur, Griffin and Phoenix, all created fun, eye-catching stalls where they sold everything from home-baked mouth-watering Victoria sponge cakes to skilfully decorated cupcakes and crunchy biscuits in order to win precious points towards the House Cup.
Each house was also given the opportunity to submit bakes to the tasting competition which was judged by Principal of the school Ms Janis Davies and won by Phoenix house with a zesty lemon creation by Year 10 student Tilly. Other competitions included most money raised which was also won by Phoenix and most baked goods which was won by Centaur.
The event, designed to engage all students in fundraising within the school community was a huge success.
“The students and staff really got into it. We had motivating music, and members of all the houses came through to support each other. It was a great event that got the whole school buzzing,” said Ms Janis Davies, Principal of Sydney Russell.
“It was a great turn out and atmosphere in which there was a healthy competition between the houses. Staff and students alike have competed against each other with smile on our faces knowing we were all trying hard to raise money and awareness for children within Great Ormond Street Hospital” said Assistant Vice Principal Aris Dimakos.
In the end, the children of Sydney Russell School raised a whopping £709.92 for the children of Great Ormond Street Hospital.
