Last month we welcomed back the first of our new alumni network for two sessions titled ‘Skills and Strengths’ and ‘Building Resilience’.
The former students who left in the 90s, 00s and 10s now work in a variety of roles including a civil servant, lawyer, business owners and an IT engineer. During the ‘Building Resilience’ session they worked with students to build their confidence by celebrating their strengths, in addition to discussing mistakes, failures and solutions whilst debating the statement “It’s good if you don’t do something right”.
The students then took part in a bridge building task where the first time round only two teams managed to build a strong bridge, all teams then received feedback on their team work skills. The teams then had a second chance at the task and all teams succeeded. They were able to reflect on the importance of resilience and Elisabeth, former student noted “I think it’s important to have an awareness of your skills so that you can celebrate what you’ve achieved. Just through working with these incredible Year 7s, I’ve been able to reflect on my own skills!”
We would like to thank those returning ex-students and we are excited to have many more events like this in the future.
