Dear Parents/Carers,
I hope that you and your families remain well and that your child has re-established their routines and made a good start to the learning using the TEAMs on-line platform in the first weeks of this summer term.
We have all been deeply shocked by the tragic events in the United States since the murder of George Floyd. If this had been normal times, we would have used tutor periods, the Civics Programme and assemblies to understand and process this news and support our young people to see the small ways we can work to tackle injustice in our world. Instead during this half term through our assembly programme we will be able to raise awareness of events and provide our students with links to further explore the issues it raises.
The global response to events hopefully means that a real step change will take place. Although we are not together through these hard times, we are still a community and by collectively reflecting on these events I hope that we can learn from them together and be stronger.
Finally, I would like to reaffirm our commitment to you which is enshrined in our vision.
“Where the world comes to school”
Unlocking the potential of every child, challenging expectations and levelling the playing field is at the heart of what we do and who we are at the Sydney Russell School.
Please look after yourselves and stay safe.
Kind regards
Janis Davies
Principal
