ETHOS & VALUES

The Sydney Russell School is a community sharing a common purpose: to prepare young people for the future. It has an excellent reputation for academic success and offers its children an excellent education from Reception through to the Sixth Form. It strives to ensure that every child realises their full potential and leaves us confident, self-assured with a strong work ethic and better prepared academically and socially to go into a fast changing world.

The school is a blend of the modern methods and the traditional. We uphold the traditional values of strong discipline, school uniform and a demanding classroom ethos. High expectations are necessary to ensure our students achieve the best they can. At the Sydney Russell we believe in firm discipline: without good order in the classroom teachers cannot teach and students cannot learn. We also expect students to take a pride in belonging to their school by wearing correct school uniform and wearing it smartly and properly.

We want our young people to develop as life-long learners who can cope with change, communicate effectively and use new technology with confidence. We are totally committed to the best use of 21st century computer technology to help teaching and learning and we invest in our teachers to ensure effective and engaging pedagogy. Learning can be difficult and challenging at times, and it is our job, with the support of parents, to keep the pressure on and maintain motivation.

We demand that our students achieve the very best that they are capable of, but we also work to ensure that they are happy and feel secure at school. We have an extensive enrichment programme and expect our students to get involved in the wider life of the school: to join clubs, get involved in sports teams, take part in school productions. In short, to take advantage of all the opportunities that an exciting school like Sydney Russell offers.
