Year 10 Girls Borough Futsal Tournament

On Monday 24th November SRS hosted the year 10 girls borough futsal tournament. Greatfields and Eastbrook travelled to play SRS in a round-robin tournament. The SRS teams tarted off strong with a win against Eastbrook. Their next game against Greatfields caused them more of a challenge to get the result but with some great passing play and powerful finishes, SRS got their 2nd win of the evening. SRS went into their last game against Greatfileds needing to win or at least draw if they wanted to be crowned winners of the tournament. The score finished 1-1, SRS had won! The team was made up of these players: Hazel, Erin, Mia, Lily, Phebie, Abbey and Abigal. This result means the girls with represent the borough at London Youth Games later on in the year.

On Tuesday 25th November the U13 girls played in the Essex Cup against William Edwards School. The team played so well against a well organised side. Elisa made some crucial saves in goal, whilst Naomi and Grace were controlling the back line with some great defensive tackles. In midfield Abi played with such intensity and won the ball back for SRS on many occasion, feeding the ball into Cheyenne to have an opportunity to shoot at goal. The score reflected a very evenly matched game and two sides who both fought hard for the win. A special mention to Cheyenne for scoring a hat-trick! Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough though as WES came away with a 4-3 victory. POM: Abi A

Year 7 Borough Athletics Competition

On Tuesday, our Year 7 athletes took part in their very first borough athletics competition, an exciting milestone for the entire year group. Their day started bright and early with a dedicated training session before school, where students prepared across a wide range of events. They worked hard on their 2-lap, 4-lap and 6-lap races, and also practised key field events including triple jump, long jump, vertical jump, speed bounce and shot put.

All of this commitment and effort paid off brilliantly. By the end of the competition, both the boys’ team and the girls’ team finished 2nd overall in the borough. Incredibly, only five points separated them from first place. That margin could have come down to the smallest details, a few extra centimetres in a jump or a couple of seconds gained in a race, showing just how close and competitive the event truly was.

This is a fantastic achievement for their first time competing at borough level, and every member of the team should feel extremely proud.

A huge congratulations to all of our Year 7 athletes!
