Y8 boys National Cup

Kings Langley (3) vs Sydney Russell(1)

On Monday Sydney Russell Y8 boys travelled to Hertfordshire for the National cup. They did well to go ahead in the first half through a long-range strike from man of the match Joel Adegbite.

New goalkeeper David Leskiv kept us in front with a brilliant 1v1 save, and by commanding his area. After half time, a range of shots couldn't find us a second goal and Kings Langley equalised with a quick counter, followed by two more goals in quick succession.

Some promising breakaways were created but we couldn't make the most of these. This was the team's first game of the year, and there where positives to take away.

Sydney Russell 1 - 3

A tough and frustrating first game of the season for SRS Year 10's. We didn't play to our best and found ourselves on the wrong side of the result in the Essex Cup.

There is still plenty to work on, and also plenty to play for this season with a National Cup game upcoming against St Cleres.

Year 11 National Cup Football

The Year 11 boys started their final campaign as a team in the national cup on Monday against a very strong Central Foundation School. The boys came flying out of the traps, 2-0 up within the first 10 minutes, goals from Finley and Thiago. The game then swung back in favour of Central Foundation who worked their way back into the game with an excellent long-range strike and some good football down the right wing for a tap in to make it 2-2 with 5 minutes to go until half time. The wind was then knocked out of the Sydney Russell sails with a goal conceded in the last minute of the first half to leave it 3-2 at half time.

The second half began in the same vein with Central Foundation on top but the boys battled hard and were competitive, carving out multiple opportunities to get level from set pieces. Unfortunately, the missed chances came back to bite the boys as Central Foundation broke away to a 4-2 then 5-2 lead in the last 15 minutes of the game.

Overall, a solid performance from the boys that ultimately somewhat flattered the opposition but was definitely one that fell in the category of one that got away! Onwards and upwards with the London and Essex Cups.
