Dear parents and carers,
Amendment to curriculum delivery for students in Y7-Y9 on 31st March 2025
Eid is expected to be celebrated on Monday 31st March. We have a number of staff and students who will be observing this religious celebration.
Having looked at the exact numbers of staff this will involve and having now had confirmation of limited supply agency cover available on that day, it is evident that we will be unable to sufficiently staff all classes.
In order to prioritise our youngest learners, those who are vulnerable and those who are preparing for their exams, we will be requiring students in Years 7, 8 and 9 only to stay at home on Monday 31st March to complete remote learning via Teams.
Students will be set tasks for the day in line with their timetable. Tasks will focus on revision so that the learning is familiar and provides a useful opportunity for consolidation. Students will need to be able to access Teams on a device using their usual school log in.
If you are concerned that your child in Year 7, 8 or 9 may be vulnerable and unable to stay at home for remote learning on this day, please complete the following form to request a supervised place in school: Request for supervised school place for Y7, Y8, Y9 student
If your child in Year 7, 8 or 9 is eligible for Free School Meals, they will be able to collect this from school reception between 11-11.30am on Monday.
Children in the primary phase, as well as students in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 who are not observing Eid will attend school as normal.
This is an exceptional circumstance, and our priority is to ensure the safety of all those on the school premises.
The uncertain nature of knowing the exact date of the celebration, and therefore the implications for the school, does mean that this notification is coming to you with a shorter notice period than usual, and I thank you for your understanding in this matter.
Should you have any urgent queries, please contact me via office@sydneyrussellschool.com
Yours faithfully,
Clare Cross
