Cheerleading

Annual Cheerleading Competition

On Wednesday the Sydney Russell Cheerleading Squad took the stage in the annual Cheerleading competition, the squad started with a rehearsal run where they got to run through their routine on full sprung floor mats and worked on spacing and timing as well as go over the routine to music, then we hit the floor for the competition, they squad performed to their best and put on a fabulous show. They then took part in 3 workshops, A stunting workshop, a Tumbles Workshop and a Jumps workshop, this is where they learnt some new skills and improved the skills they could already do. After, we found out the result and came in 1st place.

Rugby

Essex 7s Rugby Tournament

The U12s made the journey to Robert Clack to compete in the Essex 7s Rugby Tournament, where they played six challenging matches and demonstrated incredible teamwork and resilience throughout. The girls were exceptional team players, consistently supporting one another and showing great sportsmanship towards the other teams, which was so lovely to see. Their kindness, respect, and unity were commended by teachers from other schools making us all proud. The girls showcased some outstanding rugby especially Olivia who was playing for the first time, impressing everyone! They played with fierce intensity, tackling hard and proving themselves to be a formidable force on the field. This team has been nothing short of remarkable this season, displaying commitment and determination in every way. There’s no doubt that these girls will achieve even greater things next year! Well done, girls—you are all absolutely amazing!

Athletics

Lee Valley A Final

Well done to the boys and girls team who made the Lee Valley A Final on Wednesday. Both teams performed very well in the first round of the cup and set themselves up for a terrific final.
Students were competing against many top schools in the country and displayed a huge amount of character. Some good races to start off with Jessica and AJ in the hurdles set us up for a high level of athletics to the evening.
Performances from Abi A in the first round saw two Lee Valley school records broken in the 60m and Long jump. She carried on exactly where she left off and won both events again. Angel P came into the squad to throw a shotput and delivered a huge 6.80m throw. Marius also came in as a shot-putter for the boys team and delivered a massive 8.20m throw. Kevin H ran a superb 800m run in what was a difficult race against some high level athletes. He was only a few seconds off the Sydney Russell School record.
As the evening moved on, the girls floated between the top 3 positions and it all came down to the last round of shotput scores and a relay to be inputted on the system. Our relay was the quickest time on the night, putting us in 1st place…. until the 3rd and final throw for two other schools shot-putters.
A huge achievement to gain a podium place as the girls finished 3rd overall, whilst the boys competed well in coming 13th out of 26.
Well done to all involved.

Futsal

Year 7 & 8 Futsal Tournament

On Wednesday SRS hosted the year 7 & 8 borough futsal tournament. It was a hugely competitive tournament with 8 teams competing in a round robin format to see who would be crowned the winners. The SRS team were going into the tournament with high hopes that they would compete for the top spot. They took a while to get into the swing of things however, Daniel and Koyes created some great scoring opportunities for the team. Nikita in goal made some vital saves to keep the team competing in their matches. Jeffery and Usman made last ditch tackles to stop the oppositions attacks, and Brody and Sailu were the playmakers in the middles of the court. SRS finished the tournament with 3 wins, 1 draw and 3 loses, finishing in 4t place overall.
