This week saw the launch of our very exciting Student Leadership programme of training, supporting our secondary students (in this first phase) to learn and develop key leadership skills which will underpin their success as student leaders. We are looking forward to see the progress our young people make and how we can further develop this training in the future.
On Monday we mark Holocaust Memorial Day, for which there will be a series of assemblies across the secondary phase, led by Mr Fells, to help us understand the importance of this commemoration.
The UK Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) Ceremony is the focal point of HMD in the UK and brings together the civic, faith and political leadership of the country, alongside survivors of the Holocaust and more recent genocides. HMD 2025 will be a particularly significant year as it marks 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and 30 years since the genocide in Bosnia.
The Holocaust is central to Holocaust Memorial Day as we remember the 6 million Jews murdered during the Holocaust. The Holocaust threatened the fabric of civilisation, and discrimination and persecution must still be resisted every day. Our world often feels fragile and vulnerable and we cannot be complacent. Wherever it takes place, including in the UK, prejudice and the language of hatred must be challenged by us all. You can find out more about HMD at: https://hmd.org.uk/what- is-holocaust-memorial-day/
For now, there are lots of celebrations of students’ achievements included in this week’s newsletter – enjoy!
Have a good weekend.
