There are five new mythical editions to Sydney Russell this year. They have been chosen by the students for the students. They are named Centaur, Dragon, Griffin, Pegasus and Phoenix. They have travelled many miles; across wide oceans, vast lands and air, to be part of the new Sydney Russell House system. Centaur, originating in Greece, has the powerful lower body of a horse and the upper body of a human, forming our Purple house. Dragon, a fire breathing serpentine with a unique animal-level of intelligence makes our Red house. Griffin, an Egyptian creature who has the strong and mighty body of a lion and the head and wings of a fearful eagle, creating out Green house. Pegasus, a winged divine stallion, normally pure white in colour and known as lightning makes our Blue house and finally, Phoenix, associated with the sun as it obtains new life from rising from the ashes of its predecessor makes our Yellow house.

Students can collect house points through excellent effort in class, attending a club, completing excellent homework, community service and many more. Points can also be taken away due to poor behaviour, not completing homework and lateness. Staff and students alike will go into battle to win house points, getting ever closer to raising the house cup.

Each house will have a Head of House to help organise events as well as House captains in every year group. For Centaur house, Ms Amri has been chosen, for Dragon, Mr Lewis will reign, Griffin is manned by Mr Dimakos, Pegasus by Ms de Gray and finally Phoenix by Mr Hill.

Throughout the year competitions will be run for all year groups allowing students to gain as many points as possible. Furthermore, all around the school on the display system, there will be a running total of the house points so students can see which house is currently leading in House points.

Five mighty new editions to the School, but who will rain superior and lift the House Cup? Only time will tell!
