Last week Sydney Russell’s senior debaters represented the school at the annual Debate Mate Cup competition for our region. At the end of the day our teams just missed their place in the day’s final competition with our A team coming third and the B team coming 4th and the students were, quite understandably, somewhat frustrated. However, yesterday I received brilliant news from Debate Mate as Sydney Russell’s A team scores on the day of the competition place them in the top 16 schools across the country for this competition gaining them a place in the national final!!

This means our debaters have made two national finals this year; the Debate Mate Cup, which will be held on Monday 22/5 and the Urban Debate League on Monday 5/6.

Please make sure you go out of your way to congratulate our absolutely amazing students!!!
