Key Stage 3
The Year 7 curriculum in Art and Design concentrates on developing the students’ use of the basic formal elements of Art, encouraging the production of images made from observation, memory and imagination. Students explore the use of line, tone, shape, form, colour and texture in a variety of media including drawing, painting, sculpture and collage, working both individually and in groups.
The Year 8 Art curriculum builds upon the basic skills developed in Year 7. A more independent and individual approach to artwork is encouraged and more time spent on looking at the work of other artists in relation to the students’ own efforts. Personal research and planning plays an increasingly important part in the students’ work.
Key Stage 4 Art and Photography
The Year 9 curriculum pulls together the strengths gained in the previous two years. Larger scale work is attempted, in two and three dimensions. Projects are based on themes that allow students to produce more personal work requiring a greater depth of research and a more profound relationship to the work of other artists and designers.
GCSE Art and Design/Photography follows the EDEXCEL syllabus and consists of a coursework unit (60%) and an externally set examination unit (40%).
Key Stage 5 Art and Photography

The coursework is designed to enable students to explore a range of 2 dimensional or 3 dimensional approaches to support their studies, which can include a variety of print-making, ICT manipulated imagery, mixed media, painting and drawing, graphic design, textiles, ceramics and sculpture.
