At Key Stage 3 we offer a variety of creative practical opportunities for our learners through resistant materials, graphics, CAD/CAM and textiles. Pupils design and make products using a range of materials such as paper and card, plastics, textiles, and timber based materials. Pupils are encouraged to select and use appropriate tools and materials skilfully and safely. Product Design and Food Technology are available as options in Year 9 these subjects are continued to GCSE, the awarding body is AQA. As a department we set high expectations for our learners. We strive to provide a supportive environment that inspires, motivates and challenges pupils to achieve their full potential.

AQA Product Design GCSE
(60% Controlled Assessment – 40% Exam)
Product Design encourages students to design and make products with creativity and originality, using a range of materials and techniques. Packaging, labelling and instructions are encouraged as part of the complete design proposal.
AQA Food Technology GCSE
(60% Controlled Assessment – 40% Exam)
Food Technology helps students develop their creativity, whilst learning high level making skills. This two unit specification requires students to develop their application of knowledge and understanding when developing ideas and planning to produce a demanding outcome.
How to support your child
In years 7 and 8 you can support your child by encouraging them to carry out short focused practical tasks with supervision. These could include replacing a missing button or helping to plan and prepare an evening meal.
