Dear parents and carers,
Year 11 – preparations for final GCSE examinations
Yesterday our Year 11 students received their mock GCSE results. No matter how they may be feeling today, whether they are celebrating or feeling a bit disappointed, the key thing to remember is that this was the practise run. There is still time for them to prepare for the ‘real’ exams…but this will require action, determination and continued support from us all.
Year 11 students approached their mock exams with maturity; most had studied and revised, many had spent extra time with their teachers or in the supervised study areas at the end of the school day, and there is no doubt that these extra efforts made a difference to how they were able to perform.
Some students may have realised that they now need to put more time aside for revision, need to make better use of their teachers’ guidance or should make better use of the school facilities to revise, if revising at home isn’t easy or working for them. Having had this valuable taster of what it feels like to be in a series of exams, they must take the guidance and advice being given to support them in their final preparations and, importantly, now put this into action.
Year 11 students have been provided with detailed feedback for each subject, indicating the areas of study which now need to be prioritised for additional study and revision. Teachers will be using lesson time to address key areas for focus. Students have been given an intervention timetable which outlines the additional support they will receive, recommencing from Monday 20th February. Supervised study areas will continue to be open daily until 6pm and a selection of revision sessions are planned for the Easter holidays (further details to follow).
Whilst I know this can be a stressful time for our young people, having a planned and well thought-through approach to their revision will help manage nerves and worries as the final exams approach.
Each of our Year 11 students have next steps that they are working towards – aims and ambitions they are striving to realise; whether it is sixth form, an apprenticeship or training – we are here to support them to secure the grades they need to reach their goals and access those next steps in their learning journey.
I wish your child every success in the coming months and assure them that they have our full support to help them achieve their very best.
Yours faithfully,
Clare Cross
