YEAR EIGHT PREFERENCES

In the Spring Term students in Year Eight will indicate their preferences for subjects to study in Year Nine with a view to taking GCSEs in these subjects.  The Subject Information Evening is on 15th January 2019.  Parents and students will be invited to attend one of three sessions, outlining the subjects available for students in each band. The presentation will be given by the Principal and members of the Senior Leadership Team and the Head of Year Eight will be available to give advice to individual students.  The deadline by which students should submit their list of preferences is 25th January 2019.

While the Assistant Vice Principal in charge of the preference process, Mr Lewis, will try to ensure that students are able to take the subjects they choose, this may not always be possible.  There are, for example, limits on the number of students taking practical subjects.

Students should be aware that they should select subjects in which they are likely to achieve the highest possible GCSE grades.  While it’s important that students enjoy their lessons, their choice should not be influenced by preferences about teachers or other students.  Whatever students choose, there are no guarantees that they will be in particular groups.  There are no subjects that are essential for any particular career path, apart from English and Mathematics, which are, of course, compulsory. Students should choose subjects which they are likely to enjoy and be successful.
